Actors Melissa Barrera and Susan Sarandon have been dropped by Hollywood companies!
Actors Melissa Barrera and Susan Sarandon have been dropped by Hollywood companies due to their comments on the Israel-Hamas war, which were considered by some as antisemitic. Spyglass Media Group, the production company behind "Scream VII," confirmed that Barrera will no longer be part of the horror franchise. Barrera had posted statements on her Instagram stories referring to the war as "genocide and ethnic cleansing" and likening Gaza to a concentration camp. Spyglass Media Group emphasized their zero tolerance for antisemitism and hate speech in their statement.
Jenna Ortega, who played Barrera's sister in the previous "Scream" films, is also reportedly not returning to the franchise, although her departure is attributed to scheduling conflicts with her Netflix series. Susan Sarandon, a five-time Oscar nominee, has been dropped by United Talent Agency (UTA) following her comments about Israel, including participating in a pro-Palestinian rally where she chanted a slogan considered antisemitic. The agency stated that they no longer represent Sarandon.
The Israel-Hamas war has led to divisions within Hollywood, with various groups issuing statements condemning or refraining from commenting on the conflict. Maha Dakhil, a prominent agent with Creative Arts Agency, resigned from her board seat after sharing a social media post accusing Israel of genocide, for which she later apologized.
